NOW LIFE’S ALL THE SWEETERīefore making the switch to education I was in the pub business for about 25 years. Working in a school has given me a better work-life balance and has made me feel that I make a difference in terms of the work we do in moulding young people so they are ready for the challenges that life will bring. New challenges give you additional motivation. I’d say to anyone thinking about working in a school to not be afraid to take yourself outside of your comfort zone. I have also worked with people from different backgrounds, abilities, cultures, and age groups, so I have experience and a good grounding in dealing with people across a wide range of environments. I learnt so much in my previous role that I’m able to apply to my current role I ran several different departments, so I am able to work within budgets, lead a team, support, train, and coach staff. I love working in a school because I know I’m making a difference for young people that have lost hope and aspiration. I worked as a Distribution Manager in the Newspaper & Magazine Industry for 17 years before switching to a role in education.
