Also, enemy pathing is more of a puzzle than realistic gameplay. This also kinda killed it for me at times in terms of immersion. Also, when having a partner with you, they were seemingly stupid and how they did not get caught by enemies more often is hilariously unrealistic. Thus creates many moments of unknown or using audio to get an idea of their whereabouts-though 3D Audio could have been enhanced to improve this. The best gameplay was when you first dealt with the Stalkers in the building and you can only grab glimpses of them with this mechanic. As I mentioned above, with improvements to 3D Audio, this becomes unnecessary of a tool and you can create WAAAAY more suspenseful gameplay through the use of Audio. The use of True Sight or whatever it's called for spotting enemies needs reworked. It just hurts immersion ESPECIALLY with stealth mechanics. ![]() Enemy AI was overall, very stupid and too easy and this had nothing to do with changing difficulty setting. The first 10 hours or so of the game had too many boring components and it sometimes ruined the pacing of the story. ![]() Character animations and emotions did help drive many moments well though and voice acting was superb. Story: 6/10 - Underlying concept between Ellie and Abby was cool, though nothing new, but execution could have been better and certain parts with certain characters were not fleshed out enough so sometimes did not feel believable. Sound: 9/10 (solid but 3D Sound could have been enhanced for more immersive and suspenseful gameplay like the Hunt: Showdown does which this needs to become more of a standard). If I were to give this game a score, it would be a 7/10. The way the game designs both in parallel to each other was cool but I felt the execution was off mainly for Abby and that this game could have easily created alternate endings based on how both interact with the other's friends and whatnot. I won't spoil anything but I came to like Abby and of course, I always enjoyed Ellies character. Second, as for the plot: I felt this game had the PERFECT opportunity to create player driven choices. Can't tell you how many times I run in the line of sight of enemies for 3 or so seconds (knowingly of course) and they see nothing lol. Because the stealth gameplay in this game when set at Moderate at the start, is way too easy and actually kills the immersion by a ton. She was a realistic imperfect character and I found it easy to feel bad for her.įirst and foremost: I wished I knew that "Difficulty" could be changed ingame to be quite specific: harder stealth, more supplies, harder hitting enemies, etc etc. I think her character is meant to be imperfect, especially given her situation and you know the fact she’s a teenager and teenagers are kind of dumb sometimes. Will also add that I see some people criticizing Ellie for her actions in the game. I did enjoy the original better and wonder if the anticipation of the sequel led to unrealistic expectations. In general, while a seemingly polarizing game, I think this one is closer to the middle, around a 7 most likely, rather than a 1 or 10 like the straw poll has people. I thought her character was great but I’m unable to fully forgive her at the end. When someone harms a beloved character- they’ll be hated from the fan base. ![]() I think the backlash is understandable given her actions in the very beginning. I found myself feeling for Abby by the end, so I guess naughty dog succeeded with their goal, but it was a pain to have to play as her in the beginning. I appreciate the storytelling with the flashbacks and memories, but it took away some enjoyment of the game when I wanted to get in and actually play. The gameplay was fine, but this game felt more movie-like than the last, and because of that it seemed like more cutscenes and more dull non-action sequences. I found myself having to take breaks because I didn’t feel like playing for more than a few hours during certain parts. There were some major pacing issues- especially in the later half of the game. It all felt natural to me and the characters were all fine.ĭidn’t think the game was perfect either. Went in spoiler free and just finished the game.Ĭan’t say I agree with all the haters, especially those complaining about how the characters look or the fact they’re LGBT.
